Mango Season is in Full Swing!

Mango Season is in Full Swing!

In case you haven’t noticed, which is highly unlikely, it is mango season in Hawaii! When summertime comes you see the mango trees laden with their beautiful fruit, ripening from green to deep rosy pink, purple, or golden yellow. For some this might not be a fruit you are familiar with, but we definitely recommend that you give it a try! It is sometimes called the “apple” of Hawaii, and like the apple, there are many varieties. All are juicy and sweet, with a pale yellow to orange colored flesh inside and a peach-like texture. One word of caution however, the peel can cause an allergic rash on some people, so wash the fruit, peel it, then slice the fruit off the single large seed inside.
Everyone has their favorite way of eating mango, but ice cold mango on a hot day is hard to beat! Being here in Hawaii means you get the very best, fresh, tree-ripened fruit, that beats anything in mainland stores, which was picked and shipped green of course. During mango season, June to September, you will find mangoes in grocery stores, farmers markets, roadside stands, and used in many restaurant menus. Take advantage of the chance to savor this delicious fruit, while mango season, on Oahu, is in full swing!
